The Problem

24,000,000

Every year, approximately 24 million neonates are born each year at risk of complications due to hyperbilirubinemia.1

6,000,000

Approximately 6 million newborns don’t have access to the necessary phototherapy treatment for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.2

Top 10 Cause of Neonatal Death

The Global Burden of Disease ranks severe neonatal jaundice as one of the top 10 causes of neonatal death in countries with the highest numbers of neonatal death.3

Our Technology

BiliRoo’s patent-pending technology uses filtered sunlight to provide phototherapy to treat the neonate’s jaundice while promoting essential parental skin-to-skin contact (kangaroo care). BiliRoo’s technology is non-electric, easy-to-use, and promotes active parental care to treat neonates with jaundice in low-resource settings.

Notable Features

Easy-To-Use

Our device is a simple device that is very similar to standard kangaroo care slings that are easy to take on and off.

Non-Electric

The sling uses the energy of the sun to transmit the blue light, not requiring any electric source to provide the light.

Increased Parental Involvement

Ensures the benefits of kangaroo care and allows for parents to be involved in the treatment of their neonate.

Low Cost

The simple design of the device will enable this device to cost under 50 dollars.
